Corporeal Love

What is corporeal love, after all? Love of a corpse. Spiritual love is conspiracy. Dinner plates, nail clippings, your damp hair on my pillow — all soon discarded.

Our love was whispers and eye-gazing. The breath of words poisoned these lips.

Nothing is real but this kiss. Dream of me, sweet.

3 Things About This Micro-Fiction

  1. Both romantic and creepy. Hair and nail clippings.
  2. Moral: A totally non-physical love is ultimately nihilistic.
  3. Totally unrelated, don’t you think Romeo and Juliette would make a great zombie adaptation?

3 Things About This Haiku

  1. All palm leaves in my imagination have one wilting tip.
  2. “Untwisted” seems like a very twisted kind of word because it’s un-something-ed.
  3. Written while drugged on coffee and sleep-deprivation.

Mermaid Sightings

We talk of mermaid sightings—the talk of mermaids half-seen.

We have not seen. Only heard talk. Like sex talk, who believes a word?

They say it was a misty morning. A grotto. A cove? The children’s bodies draped across rocks near the broken guardrail.

Who could believe that? Who?

3 Things About This Micro-fiction

  1. Engendered by the words “mermaid sightings” in a book, title sadly forgotten.
  2. I imagine a woman talking to a man as they sip wine by the fire.
  3. I think four is the maximum number of paragraphs I can get from 50 words.
