Poems
Melony Dott writes the poems published on Paisley Coats.
- Haiku and Tanka, Melony employs a shortened form of haiku, usually 3/5/3, because the usual 5/7/5 structure makes for chunky, super-sized haiku in English. The Japanese language has a fixed syllable structure which leads to longer words. English syllables, however, are compressed and can store more information in each syllable.
- Free Verse, Melony defines free verse in this context as anything longer than a haiku or tanka. Calling this category free verse was better than calling it not haiku. You might find some renga, haibun, or bona fide free verse poems.
